
Artist Spotlight #19- Johnny Ace. John Marshall Alexander was born June 9,1929 in Memphis, Tennessee. He would be known to us as Johnny Ace. From 1952-1954 he would score 7 Top 10 hits and 3 #1 hits on the R & B charts. He would accidentally shoot himself backstage at an auditorium in Houston, Texas on December 25, 1954. His success had been strictly on the R & B charts, but after his death would come his biggest hit-“Pledging My Love”.



From August 1952, #1 on the R & B charts-“My Song”
From January 1953, #3 on the R & B charts-“Cross My Heart”.
From December 1953, #2 on the R & B charts-“Saving My Love For You”.

His biggest hit will come in January of 1955, a month after his death-#1 on R & B charts and #17 on the Billboard Top 40, “Pledging My Love”.
